The Hairdressers - original color pencil painting on canvas

Hi all! I've finally completed my painting "The Hairdressers", created specifically for an upcoming juried art event held by Carolina's, a local hair salon. Keep your fingers crossed for me on winning! :)

This is a 24"x36" color pencil painting on watercolor canvas, which is sealed and framed in gold/red wood frame (shown below). I had such FUN with this design! I wanted it to be loaded with bright colors, and have a unique concept. Of course I created a "phrase" to go with the art. "Bad hair day? Party tonight? No fear...The Hairdressers are here!" The art, along with the phrase, are now on products in my store here.

The painting has been delivered, and now it's just a matter of waiting.....UGH! (I hate waiting! LOL!) I'll keep you all updated.

The hairdressers....

I've been busy - I've been presented with a unique opportunity to enter a piece in a juried art show here locally. Somehow, the art has to have something to do with HAIR, as the show is hosted by Carolina, a great local salon where our gallery art is displayed. So I've been busy working on this incredible painting I've titled "The Hairdressers". It's also in color pencil - but this time it's on CANVAS and the size is 24x36 - so it's a big one! So far, it's coming along FABULOUSLY and I can't wait to get it finished so I can upload it here! :)

Through this process of me trying to meet the deadline with this painting - I've noticed something interesting. It seems as soon as I set my mind to it, every possible interference that can possibly arise has done so. People I haven't heard from for MONTHS (and many I don't WANT to hear from...LOL) are calling - all of them wanting something from me. Either that or it's people trying to start sh** with me about NOTHING. I sit here minding my own business and not bothering anyone, and it just comes a knockin' on the door....GEEZ. It's taking a lot for me to hold my ground and be firm and say NO, and keep my focus on my goal. Some things I won't say NO to, but they will just have to wait until the end of next week.

One of the most interesting things that happened is I've been contacted by TWO television program hosts this week to do interviews/filming. How odd is that - the one week I have a serious deadline to meet, and all of a sudden these people want to interview for television? It couldn't have come along at a worse time for me. But hey, I'll see if they can do the interview at a later date - if not, then I guess I'll just miss out.

Anyway, it's back to the easel for me...I'll share the new painting as soon as it's completed!

When I shift...you better hang on!

Evolution is a conceptual illustration which was designed when Mitsubishi released their new Lancer Evolution. In addition to sporting the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution as a focal point, this illustration is representative of evolving, becoming ones self, feeling free to be true to who you really are and enjoy life as you pursue and experience your own desires. The original 16x20 art was completed solely in color pencils on cream colored mat board. Framed original painting is available for purchase - contact Jai for information.

The TIGER, Original Painting by Jai (click here to bid now!)

After a few months of dealing with some personal issues, I am now returning to my artwork. I've decided to pick up my color pencils again, as I've learned some new techniques which give me the look of a painting, while still achieving the detail provided by the color pencil. This painting, titled "The Tiger", is size 9x12 on paper and is matted in an 11x14 black mat, and is ready to frame. Click here to bid on this original work now!

What I'm up to...

In case you're wondering what I've been up to lately, check out this blog:

Also, I *am* getting back to doing some painting. Colored pencil on paper/canvas and whatever other supports I can find. Basically, I'm going back in time with my work and trying some of my old favorite mediums again.

The photo to the left is a colored pencil painting titled Evolution I did about 4 years ago.

I'll show some new work here as soon as it's ready!
